Agent Templates
Agent templates are pre-configured bot and AI-agent setups for common use cases — "Business hours autoresponder," "FAQ bot with knowledge base," "Lead qualification agent." They save you from starting from scratch and provide proven logic as a starting point.
What are agent templates?
Agent templates are pre-configured blueprints for chatbots and AI agents. Instead of building a bot from scratch — including prompts, tool selection, escalation rules, welcome message — you pick a template that already contains those components, adapt it to your brand, and ship.
Templates accelerate the start without sacrificing individual customization. They're not finished bots — they're starting points.
Common template categories
| Template | Bot mode | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Business-hours autoresponder | Keyword bot | After hours: "We're back at 9am." |
| FAQ bot with knowledge base | RAG bot | Answers common questions from your knowledge base. |
| Appointment booking bot | Guided dialog | Step-by-step capture of appointment data. |
| Lead qualification agent | AI agent | Ask questions, tag, hand off to sales. |
| Shipping status bot | Tool bot | Take order number, query API, return status. |
| Newsletter signup bot | Form bot | Capture email, kick off double opt-in mail. |
| Triage bot | Routing bot | Categorize requests, route to the right team. |
What a template contains
- Welcome message — the first answer the contact sees.
- Core logic — keywords, NLU intents, RAG configuration, or AI-agent prompts.
- Escalation rules — how many low-confidence answers (confidence score) before handoff.
- Handoff text — what the bot says before passing to a human.
- Fallback text — what the bot says when it doesn't understand and no handoff is available (outside business hours).
- Tags — tags the bot can set automatically.
- Tool wiring — for agent templates: which APIs or MCP servers the agent may call.
Customizing a template
- Pick the template: Click a template in the "New Bots Hub."
- Language + brand voice: Templates ship in 11 languages. Adjust greeting text to your brand.
- Wire knowledge base: For RAG bots, choose the right knowledge collection.
- Escalation routing: Which team the bot hands off to.
- Test: Walk through with a test contact before going live.
- Publish: Map the bot to the desired channel.
Why start with templates
- Speed: 10 minutes instead of 2 days to a working bot.
- Built-in best practices: Escalation thresholds, tone, fallback texts come from real patterns, not guesses.
- Multilingual out of the box: Templates are available in all supported languages, including RTL.
- Comparability: When several teams build bots, templates ensure consistent quality.
When to start from scratch
- When your use case is so unusual that no template fits even loosely.
- When you have technical requirements no template covers (e.g., a special integration into your own software).
- When your brand voice is so distinct that template adaptation can't capture it.
For most SMB scenarios a template or a combination of two templates fits.
