Jibe (Google Jibe)

Jibe is Google's RCS cloud, or RCS hub, that provides RCS and RBM infrastructure for many mobile operators. Google acquired the company Jibe Mobile in 2015 and operates the platform that handles RCS traffic on top of it. It connects operators and devices to the RCS ecosystem under the Universal Profile.

What is Jibe (Google Jibe)?

Jibe is Google's RCS cloud, often also called an RCS hub. It provides the infrastructure for RCS and RCS Business Messaging (RBM) and so handles the actual operation of the message traffic. As a point of RCS history rather than any partnership: Google acquired the company Jibe Mobile in 2015 and has operated the resulting platform ever since.

Role in the RCS ecosystem

Jibe is the operational layer between the standard and the end device:

  • Hosting for mobile operators: many operators do not run their own RCS cloud and instead route their RCS traffic through Jibe.
  • Connection to the standard: Jibe implements the Universal Profile and makes the features it defines usable in practice.
  • RBM delivery: through Jibe and the MaaP layer, verified business messages reach users' native messaging apps.

Why many aggregators run on top of it

Because Jibe provides a large share of the world's RCS infrastructure, aggregators and business-messaging providers often have little way around it: anyone wanting to deliver RBM messages typically connects to a hub like Jibe rather than building their own RCS cloud. Important for clarity: the Universal Profile is the specification (the what), MaaP is the platform layer for business messaging, and Jibe is a concrete hub that operates this technology (the how). That Google operates Jibe is a fact of RCS history, not a statement about any single platform's partnerships.
