Rich Card
A Rich Card is an interactive RCS message made of a media header, title, description text, and several tappable buttons. Instead of plain text, the recipient gets a card that appears like a small product or offer tile right inside the chat. It is the core building block of RCS Business Messaging.
What is a Rich Card?
A Rich Card is the standard interactive message in RCS Business Messaging: a compact card that appears in the chat and bundles an image or video, a headline, descriptive text, and several tappable buttons into a single element. Where an SMS delivers only 160 characters of text, a Rich Card carries a complete mini-offer the recipient can act on with one tap. Rich Cards are a form of rich media and are part of the RCS standard.
How a Rich Card is built
A Rich Card follows a fixed structure that the recipient's device renders consistently:
- Media header: an image or short video at the top of the card, in portrait or landscape, as the eye-catcher.
- Title: the bold headline, such as a product or campaign name.
- Description: a short block of text with details, price, or appointment.
- Buttons: several tappable suggested replies and suggested actions directly below the card, such as "Book appointment", "Call", or "Go to website".
Whether the media header is portrait or landscape determines how large the image appears relative to the text. This keeps the layout consistent across different devices.
Typical use cases
Rich Cards shine wherever plain text would fall flat:
- Product: photo, name, price, and a "Buy now" button in one card.
- Appointment: date, time, and a "Confirm" plus "Reschedule" button.
- Offer: campaign image, discount code, and a direct link to redeem.
Short example: after a service check, a garage sends a Rich Card with a photo of the next tyre offer, the price, and two buttons – "Book appointment" and "Ask a question". The customer taps without typing a single line.
