Suggested Action

A Suggested Action is a tappable button inside an RCS message that triggers a native device function. Instead of a text reply, it starts a call, opens a map, creates a calendar entry, or opens a web page. It turns a message directly into an action.

What is a Suggested Action?

A Suggested Action is a tappable button beneath an RCS message that triggers a function directly on the smartphone. Unlike a reply button, it does not send text back; it starts an action. The recipient taps, and the device responds at once, for example with a phone call or an open map. Suggested Actions are part of the interactive building blocks of the RCS Business Messaging experience.

Types of Suggested Actions

Suggested Actions tap into standard device functions. The most common types:

  • Call: starts a phone call to a stored number ("Call now").
  • Location and map: opens an address in the maps app, ideal for stores or on-site appointments.
  • Calendar: creates an event with date, time, and title in the recipient's calendar.
  • URL: opens a web page, such as a product page, a booking form, or an order status.

How it differs from a Suggested Reply

The difference from a Suggested Reply is clear: a Suggested Reply sends a text answer back into the chat and continues the conversation. A Suggested Action leaves the chat and triggers a native function. In practice the two are often combined: beneath an appointment confirmation, "Confirm" (reply) can sit next to "Add to calendar" (action). Both appear as chips beneath the rich card or message.

A short example: a restaurant sends an RCS message with its menu. Below it sit "Book a table" (URL), "Call" (call), and "Directions" (map). The guest chooses with one tap, without switching apps.

RCS and SendSeven

SendSeven is a unified-messaging platform for WhatsApp, SMS, email, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, and live chat. RCS, with interactive elements like Suggested Actions, is planned as a future channel; SMS is already a core part today and reaches recipients reliably even without an RCS-capable device. Every channel comes together in one central inbox, GDPR-compliant, EU-hosted, and built in Germany.
